Curses
All curses require some administrative oversight. Do not use a curse in your RP without first consulting with a staff member. Saying something as a general curse towards someone is fine, as it will have no actual effect besides making your disdain known and perhaps imbuing a bit of fear in the other person.
About Curses
In Kahara, curses seem to most commonly be the result of magic gone awry rather than anything intentional. In that regard, a curse that comes as a result of magical error may in some regards be considered a bit different from a curse cast with intention, as the latter requires the caster to form a pact with some sort of entity in order to cast it, resulting in something needing to be paid to the entity in return. In addition, some creatures are known to cast curses, seemingly out of pure malice or as some sort of natural defense mechanism. These creatures usually originate in lands that have been deeply affected by some past event, the natures of which are unknown in present day. These lands are considered to be deeply cursed themselves.
As a result, minor curses are accessible to some degree, with the methods required for the most common ones written in curse-books, though the buying and selling of them is considered taboo, and in some places illegal.
Curses beyond such a minimal level are much more difficult, both to cast with intention and to find any instruction on, that the likelihood of one having been the result of anything besides something that has gone terribly, magically awry, or being the direct result of some cursed entity or higher power, is extremely low. While curse-books do exist which claim to share methods for higher level curses, they are a complete scam at best and dangerously unreliable at worst. Any attempts to find a method to cast such greater curses are far more likely to result in the destruction of the caster, if not a much greater disaster.
The Role of Diviners with Curses
Called upon most often for their ability to see and communicate with the unseen, Diviners have a secondary skill in figuring out the nature of curses. The ability to read 'auras' and detect other extra-sensory clues can sometimes help in determining the mechanism of a curse and lead the investigating party to a conclusion they may have otherwise missed.
Cursed Items
Over time, several cursed items have been discovered across Kahara. These items are held in safe places, locked away to avoid any possibility of triggering the curse associated with the item. Attempts have been made to purge many such items of their curses, however all but a rare few have completely failed, and some have said these attempts have done nothing but strengthen the curses. Without a clear and true history, it is impossible to discern a method which has the highest likelihood of purging the item of the cursed energies it is imbued with. Without any known method to intentionally create a cursed item, understanding the mechanisms behind each curse is that much more difficult, and there is always some guess work involved in any attempt at purging.
While any known, more majorly cursed items are largely in the hands of various polities and kept under watch, many minorly cursed items are spread throughout the world, mostly unknown to those who own them. Most often a minorly cursed item is not particularly malicious, though it can be a secondary effect. For the most part minorly cursed items simply do not function correctly, while appearing to be working perfectly.
