While scholars are not sure what the cause was, and many different hypotheses have been put forth, all agree that approximately 700 years ago some sort of surge of arcane forces caused great disasters to ravage the land, and changed the state of magic, though in what way has been difficult to conceptualize and define outside of a sense that something is different.
